On 12th January, 1915, the 1st Sherwood Foresters battalion of 24 Brigade, 8th Division left their billets in La Gorgue and moved into the trenches at Richebourg-l’Avoue in France where they remained until relieved on 15th January. On 13th January, the day on which William Gundry was killed, probably by shell fire, the battalion worked on improving the breastworks. |
